Police turn to lie detector test for interviewees

ITV News Anglia
One of our police forces is using a lie detector test to try to find out whether interviewees are telling the truth or not.
Hertfordshire Police is one of just two UK forces using a Polygraph machine.

In Hertfordshire, they have had the polygraph machine for 17 months and have used it in more than 130 cases.
Kent and Essex Police have also recently trained officers to carry out the tests, and other forces have contacted Hertfordshire to find out how useful it has been.
The results can't be used in court but they do help the police assess risk.
